How to thrive

How to thrive like the beautiful bean you deserve to be.

Eat whatever the fuck you crave. A pint of ice cream? Cheesy pasta? Grab your fork and dig in. If you’ve just eaten five meals and are still hungry – then eat something else. Listen to your body. If you’re hungry, physically or mentally, you need to eat.

Fill your life with what you love. Whether that’s photographs, books, jewellery, decor, jumpers. Stuff your life so full of everything you love it’s bursting at the seams and overflowing with the pure joy that encapsulates who you are.

Social media isn’t everything. Leave your Instagram, your Snapchat. There is more to life than refreshing pages and updating your status. When you go to grab your laptop your mobile, ask yourself why you’re picking it up. If there’s no real purpose to it, except passing time, leave it. Go for a walk, breathe the fresh air, talk to your siblings. You’ll be surprised by how much you miss when engrossed by a screen.

Cook meals from scratch. It’s not just therapeutic to find yourself in the rhythm of an everyday m, productive task, it will also provide you with opportunities to find new and delicious recipes to try, meaning you will be able to nourish your body as well as your mental health.

Keep your living space tidy. Not in an obsessive way. But it will allow you to truly relax and obtain a clear mentality. Be brutal with clutter.

Never underestimate the power of self care. Not all face masks and rose scented candles. Even washing your face, getting into freshly washed pyjamas, drinking a herbal tea, buying a new mug. It’s so important to put an allocated period of time aside every few days to take care of your mental health.

Dress up and show up. I am all for pyjama days and sweats, but it’s important to find time to piece together an outfit that boosts your self esteem before heading off to wherever you need to be. It might seem a drag, but your day will be so much better.

Put yourself first. It’s as simple as that.

  1. Love this!! One of the first things I did when I had my breakdown last year was come away from Facebook. I was amazed by how much I didn’t need it and rediscovered my love of art, music and the world around me again. I now draw (I’ve even sold some of my work 😊) and drink chamomile tea.
    I’m still on Facebook and Instagram occasionally but I now look at what interests me (local history, disused railways etc….) instead of pictures of people proclaiming their lives are infinitely better than everyone else’s.
    It’s hard at first (like drug withdrawal I’d imagine) but I tell people it’s sooooooo worth it in the end xx

      That is so inspiring to read – I definitely can relate to the drug withdrawal aspect! It’s sometimes difficult to remember that there are so many incredible and far better ways to fill your time then scrolling aimlessly through twitter. That’s so cool that you’ve sold some of your work!
